Dinner: The Olde Spitfire Grille

No matter what day of the week or what month it is, whether it’s a special occasion or not, when Ryan and I eat, we go all out; Drinks, apps, entrees, and desserts. Granted, we don’t go out to eat a lot, but when we do we enjoy it to the fullest!

Recently, we went to a benefit held at The Olde Spitfire Grille in South Greensburg (the best part was that the food was free)! Well, we loved it so much we decided to go back the next week for dinner.

When first walking into the Olde Spitfire Grille, it wasn’t what I expected. I anticipated an upbeat environment filled with music. Instead, the restaurant was very relaxing, with candles at every booth and table, and a bar off to the side. All the pictures inside and in the entrance are old pictures of Greensburg, adding a bit of town history to the place.

Now the good stuff; the food. Ryan and I like pizza. No.....we LOVE pizza. So we got chips and dip…

…(and pizza)…..

We started off with the Chicken and Smoked Gouda dip with Corn Tortilla chips (pictured above). A smooth textured dip (almost like hummus) it was packed was a smoky, cheesy flavor. It was perfect alongside the Crown Royal Cider (pictured below) I ordered too. It was mixed perfectly and not over-bearing.

Our Sicilian Pizza (pictured below) was delivered to us on a wooden pizza plank (as all pizza should be). On top of the pie was a red sauce, Italian sausage, pepperoni, tomatoes, soppressata (a type of salami), the restaurant’s five-cheese blend, and different herbs. It was a thin crust pizza (not my go to) but I would definitely order this again. The crust was cooked to the perfect consistency and the toppings were well portioned. Although this pizza was a bit heavy on the sauce, we enjoyed that about it! This pie is definitely going to be a go-to of ours and we can’t wait to try the other ones!

Last but certainly not least, dessert! I love anything chocolate, so as soon as the words ‘chocolate espresso’ left our server’s mouth, I was hooked. We split the Chocolate Espresso Crème Brûlée (pictured below), topped with whipped cream. Neither of us have had Crème Brulee before (uncultured, I know) but we loved it. The dish had a pudding like texture and a crispy top. The whipped cream was just enough to compliment the dish and we devoured it.

Overall, we enjoyed the place and will definitely be back for more of their pizza!
