August, Henry, Ben, & Jerry

Hey guys! With my crazy summer schedule including giving piano lessons, working with a marching band, and applying for (and interviewing for!!!) multiple job opportunities, it feels like I haven't blogged in a long time! Luckily though, Ryan and I went on one of our Pittsburgh adventures last night and I'm here to talk about the FOOD!!!

For our 1 year anniversary back in March, I bought Ryan and I tickets to see Matilda the Musical at the Benedum Center. It. Was. Amazing. I would definitely recommend seeing it! While Ryan talks about the musical itself, I will be taking over the food portion.

Our first stop: August Henry's

Located in the middle of Pittsburgh Cultural District, August Henry's refers to itself as a 'City Saloon,' specializing in Steaks, Crab Cakes, & Burgers. The place is your typical restaurant-bar type of establishment, with tables lining the walls, and a bar off to the side. The restaurant has daily specials (mostly on apps and drinks), so we definitely took advantage of that!

On Saturday's, August Henry's has a special on Long Island Teas, Buffalo Chicken Dip, and Stuffed Pretzels. Ryan and I would do just about anything for buffalo chicken dip, so we were extremely excited to see they had a special. This was actually the first time I ordered dip as an appetizer, and the chips ran out before the dip did. You get a lot for your money and the dip itself is pack with flavor. Not overly spicy or cheesy, and a perfect amount of chicken! I also took them up on their Long Island Tea offer as well :-)

I ordered the Eggplant Parmesan over Linguini. I love chicken, but I'd choose eggplant parm over chicken parm any day, so I was thrilled to see this on the menu! It came with a side salad and cheesy garlic bread. pictured above! I wanted to take half home, but it was so good I couldn't stop eating (plus I didn't want my pasta smelling up the theater...).

Ryan ordered the Cajun Shrimp & Chicken Alfredo. Like my dish, this too came with salad and bread. I'm not a big alfredo person, but after trying a bite, this is a dish I would order myself. The alfredo isn't over-powering, and the shrimp was AMAZING. All the spices in the sauce worked well together and it was delicious!

Like the great foodies we are, we ended the meal with dessert. However, instead of ordering one of August Henry's homemade desserts, we walked a few feet down the street to Ben & Jerry's for delicious ice cream! Splitting a pint of Ben & Jerry's between us is a pretty common thing we do, so we had to get our fill for the evening! I ordered a hot fudge sundae with Bourbon Brown Butter ice cream & Triple Caramel Chunk ice cream. Ryan ordered a scoop of the Triple Caramel Chunk in a Birthday Cake waffle cone (it had sprinkles baked into it).

We couldn't have been happier with our dining picks for the evening, and the fun continued when we went to the theater! :-)
